June 30 in Indianapolis hockey history
2013: Three players with Ice ties are picked in the NHL Entry Draft -- 2010-11 player Adam Erne goes to Tampa Bay with the 33rd overall pick. 2013-14 players Aidan Muir (4th round-Edmonton) and Brian Pinho (6th round-Washington) also hear their names called at the podium.
 Happy birthday to ...
Ron Harris: Defenseman who played with the short-lived Capitols team in 1963. He had a goal and four assists in the eight games the team played as an Indianapolis entrant, and four goals and 21 assists in 66 games over the full season. He was in his second pro year -- having played the previous year in AHL Pittsburgh. He earned two short NHL stints with the Red Wings from 1962-64, but broke into the NHL full-time upon the 1967 expansion. He played 476 NHL games with the Oakland Seals, Detroit Red Wings, Atlanta Flames and New York Rangers from 1962-76. He had 20 goals, 91 assists and 474 PIM in the NHL. He has been a coach of junior teams and the NHL's Quebec Nordiques since retiring as a player. A native of Verdun, Quebec, he is 72.
Ron Sanko: Right wing who played nine games for the Checkers in 1986-87, his only minor pro season. He had two goals and an assist with the Checkers, a year after completing a 43-goal, 132-point season in the major junior OHL. He has been involved in hockey equipment sales and as an executive with the IHL Flint Generals after retiring as a player. A native of Windsor, Ont., he is 49.
Jamie Wansbrough: Right wing who played 10 games for the Checkers in 1986-87, tallying three goals and three assists. He also played part of that season in Germany. It was his only minor pro season after posting three consecutive 30-goal seasons for Bowling Green. He led the Falcons to the NCAA title in 1984 and is a member of the school's athletics Hall of Fame. He is a media consultant and publisher in his hometown. A native of Toronto, he is 51.
Craig Fisher: Left wing for the Ice in 1994-95, he scored 53 goals and added 40 assists in 77 games for the team. He is one of five players to tally a 50-goal season while playing for an Indianapolis team. Drafted in the third round of the 1988 NHL Draft by Philadelphia, he played 12 NHL games -- four with the Flyers from 1990-91, four with the Jets in 1993-94 and four with the Florida Panthers in 1996-97. But he was a big scorer in the minors, with eight 20-goal seasons, six 30-goal seasons and three 40-goal years. His best year came in 1995-96, when he had 74 goals and 130 points for the Orlando Solar Bears of the IHL. He retired after the 1999-2000 season, when he had 15 goals in 17 games for AHL Rochester. He is currently the head coach of the Whitby Fury in the Ontario Junior Hockey League. A native of Oshawa, Ont., he is 44.
