This day in Indianapolis hockey history: May 22

Big birthday post today, as we wish happy birthdays to former IHL Ice Jim Playfair and Barrie Moore, CHL Ice Dan Cousineau and Marc Suderman, and USHL Ice Will Aide. Also, to the late former Capital George Patterson, the first Toronto Maple Leaf to score a goal.

Happy birthday to ...
George Patterson: Right wing who played a partial season for the Capitals in 1942-43, near the end of a long pro career. "Paddy" scored the first goal in Toronto Maple Leafs history in 1926-27, and also played for the Montreal Canadiens, New York Americans, Boston Bruins, Detroit Red Wings and St. Louis Eagles in the NHL. He played his last NHL game in 1935, but played 10 more minor pro seasons, nearly all in the AHL. He scored 51 goals in 299 NHL games. He had nine goals and 19 assists in 23 games for the Caps. A native of Kingston, Ontario, he was born in 1906. He passed away in 1977.
Jim Playfair: Defenseman for the Ice from 1989-92. He played 113 games for the black and silver, with 11 goals and 29 assists. He also started all 14 games of the 1990 Turner Cup run, scoring two goals. He was the 20th overall pick of the 1982 NHL Entry Draft, picked by the Edmonton Oilers. He was dealt to the Blackhawks prior to the 1987-88 season, and spent the next five seasons splitting time between Chicago and its IHL affiliates. He retired after the 1991-92 season. He later became a coach, leading the St. John Flames to an AHL title in 2001, and serving as the Calgary Flames head coach in 2006-07. He is currently associate coach with the Phoenix Coyotes. A native of Fort St. James, BC, he is 50.
Barrie Moore: Left wing for the Ice in 1998-99, their final IHL season. He had nine goals and 10 assists in 43 games for the Ice, and also played part of that season with Chicago's AHL affiliate in Portland, Maine. Over his career, he played 39 NHL games with Buffalo, Edmonton and Washington between 1995-2000, and played a number of minor pro seasons in the AHL, IHL, ECHL, UHL and for the last four years of his career from 2005-09, in Britain. A native of London, Ontario, he is 39.
Dan Cousineau: Defenseman for the Ice in their first three CHL seasons, from 1999-2002. He played 192 games in Indianapolis, with 10 goals and 57 assists. He was one of the key blueliners during the 2000 Miron Cup championship run, where he had six points in 15 playoff games. He would play his final two pro seasons with San Diego in the WCHL before retiring in 2004. Cousineau was one of several former Ohio State players to suit up for the Ice during their early CHL years.
