2010: Alex Wideman scores 8:57 into the third to give the Ice a 2-1 victory over Green Bay. Casey DeSmith makes 29 saves – including 17 in the third – to make it stand up. The powerful Gamblers win the next three games to clinch the series, and go on to win the Clark Cup (2010).
2000: Yvan Corbin strikes again, scoring in OT to give the Ice a 2-1 victory and a 2-0 lead in their best-of-5 semifinal series against Oklahoma City. Jamie Morris makes 49 saves in net.
1986: The Checkers rally from a 4-1 third-period deficit with goals by Earl Ingarfield, Monty Trottier and Charlie Skjodt in a 5:07 span to tie the game, and then Skjoct fed Bob Lakso for the game-winner 4:41 into OT, giving the Checkers a 5-4 victory over Muskegon in their first-round IHL series opener. Muskegon would sweep the next four games to win the series.
1983: The Checkers take a 3-2 lead in their semifinal series against Salt Lake, beating the Golden Eagles 4-2 at the Salt Palace. Steve Stoyanovich scores at 8:51 and 12:56 of the second period to give the Checkers a 4-0 lead. Glen Duncan and Dave Simpson score in the first to give the team a lead. 
1980: The Checkers open the semis against Fort Worth after having won their opening-round series. Garth MacGuigan scores a shorthanded goal with 23 seconds left to send the game to OT. Ed Pizunski then converts a feed from Mike Hordy to beat Michel Plasse and win it 2:18 into OT.
1977:  The Racers complete a four-game sweep of the Cincinnati Stingers with a 3-1 win in front of 16,040 at Market Square Arena. Michel Dion stops 25 shots, while Reggie Thomas has a goal and an assist. Brian McDonald nets the game-winner in the second, and Al Karlander a key insurance goal late in the third. It's the first -- and only -- playoff series win for the Racers.
1976: The Racers play their first-ever playoff game, but the New England Whalers spoil the party. Michel Parizeau scores a power play goal late in the first to tie the game, but New England wins 4-1 in front of 10,834 at MSA.

Birthdays
Mike Zuke: Racers center in the 1976-77 season, where he had three goals and four assists in 15 games as a rookie out of Michigan Tech University. He was drafted by the Racers in the fourth round of the 1974 WHA draft, and also picked by the Blues in the fifth round of that year's NHL Entry Draft. He would go on to play for the Edmonton Oilers the following year, and have a 10-year NHL/WHA career with the Racers, Oilers, Blues and Whalers. In 541 major professional games, he had 112 goals and 234 assists and was a fan favorite as a penalty killer and a scrappy player. He remains in St. Louis, where he owns a sports apparel store, Mike Zuke Enterprises. A native of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, he is 60.
Andy MacIntyre: "Andy Mac" played parts of his first four professional seasons with the IHL Ice between 1994-98, splitting time between the Ice and the ECHL each season. The Blackhawks' fourth-round pick in 1992, he played 128 games with the Ice, scoring 24 goals and assisting on 28. His best season with the Ice came in 1997-98, when he tallied 11 goals and 20 points in 34 games. His career continued -- primarily in the ECHL, with a season in the AHL with Kentucky in 1998-99 -- until 2002. In retirement, he has returned to his boyhood home of Sparwood, B.C., and serves in town government. Born in Thunder Bay, Ontario, he is 40.
Jared DeMichiel: Goaltender who played one game for the Indiana Ice in 2005-06. He went on to a four-year college career at Rochester Institute of Technology -- posting a 2.09 GAA and .921 save percentage as a senior in 2009-10. He played one year professionally in the ECHL with South Carolina and Elmira, and the AHL with Hershey in 2010-11. A native of Avon, CT, he is 29.
