1980: Kevin Devine pots a hat trick as the Checkers beat the Houston Apollos 5-2. 

Birthday
Bill McComb: Capitals center in 1951-52. He had four goals and six assists in 25 games for the blue and white. He had been a big scorer for the AHL St. Louis Flyers after the war, posting six straight seasons of at least 18 goals from 1945-51, and three 30-goal seasons. A native of Newmarket, Ont., he was born in 1921.
