Today in history: October 21

1962: The Chiefs open their final season at home, losing 4-1 to the Minneapolis Millers. Maplehurst Dairy distributes 140,000 tickets on milk cartons. Many of the 3,161 in attendance used them, and saw a bloody game. Indy’s Bernie Gould was given a five-minute major for drawing blood, and the Chiefs’ Gould, Bobby Rivard and Doug Monro left the game with injuries, as did Minneapolis’ Augie Kukulowicz, who suffered a broken jaw.
