1st shutout of the year

The Ice have a second streak to hit now, as they remained perfect at home with a 2-0 victory over the Waterloo Black Hawks Friday night at Pepsi Coliseum.

Now 6-1-0 on the year, the Ice are a perfect 2-0-0 at home. A rematch with Waterloo faces off at 7 p.m. tonight at the Coliseum.

The game turned out to be a great goaltending duel between the Ice's Jon Gillies and Waterloo's Eamon McAdam.

Gillies turned aside all 30 Waterloo shots, including several with the man advantage as the Ice killed off six power plays. McAdam made 26 saves.

The Ice's league-best PP didn't have many opportunities, but made the most of them. With 2:04 to go in the first and Ian McCoshen in the box for interference, Jacob Fallon connected to give the Ice a 1-0 edge. Daniil Tarasov and Ryan Obuchowski had the assists. The goal was Fallon's fourth of the year. Tarasov now has a 5-7-12 line in seven games, and hopes tonight is the start of another scoring string. His previous string -- which had gone since opening night -- was snapped in last Saturday's loss to Lincoln.

Waterloo carried the play in the second -- posting a 13-6 shot advantage -- but Gillies turned aside every foray. Christian Hilbrich scored just 26 seconds into the third on a feed from Robbie Baillargeon to give the Ice a cushion, but the way Gillies was playing, none was necessary. Gillies lowered his GAA to 1.82 with the victory tonight. The goose egg was the fourth shutout of his USHL career.

Three Stars
1. Jon Gillies, Ice (30 saves, shutout, W)
2. Christian Hilbrich, Ice (GWG, +1)
3. Robbie Baillargeon, Ice (Assist, +1, 2 shots)

Same two teams at the Pepsi Coliseum tonight!
