Midweek news: Ice coaching staff set, Playfair to NHL

A couple of mid-week tidbits:

Their presence was notable at tryout camp last weekend, but Matt Plante and Brad Lutch will make up new coach Kyle Wallack's coaching staff. Lutsch -- an Indiana University grad and the Ice's Vice President of Player Personnel -- is in his fourth year with the Ice, having assisted Jeff Blashill, Charlie Skjodt and now Wallack.

Plante has coached collegiately at Wesleyan University and UConn, and has been a high school coach at Hebron Academy in Maine since 2007. He is a 2002 graduate of Quinnipiac University -- where he played four years as a defenseman -- and began coaching at Connecticut in 2003. He is a native of Troy, New York.

Also, the 30-man team roster is set. All of the returning Ice players from last year who came to camp made the cut.

In other news, former Indianapolis Ice player Jim Playfair is back in the NHL as an associate coach with the Phoenix Coyotes. Playfair had a 43-29-10 record with the Calgary Flames in 2006-07 as their head coach, and has coached the Abbotsford Heat in the AHL the past two years. He also coached the Calder Cup champion Saint John Flames of the AHL in 2001 as part of a long coaching career that has spanned 11 years in the Calgary Flames organization. Playfair played parts of three seasons with the Ice from 1989-92, and was a key part of the 1990 Turner Cup championship team.

  1. Does this include Rabey? He was the only vet to not make the All Star roster
