Brandon Russo to PSU

Defenseman Brandon Russo became the latest Ice player to make his college commitment, as he'll be part of the inaugural varsity hockey team at Penn State University in 2012-13.

Russo will head to Happy Valley this fall to play for the Nittany Lions, which will play one more season at the ACHA club level, and then he will have four years of NCAA eligibility when Penn State achieves full varsity status in 2012, and joins the newly-formed Big Ten hockey conference in 2013. PSU will compete as an independent for one year.

Russo is a native of Connecticut. He played 37 games with the Ice this season after starting the year in Youngstown. He had one goal and 15 assists for the Ice, and 2 goals and 22 assists overall in his USHL season. He had an overall +10 rating in 51 total games.

Russo joins a growing list of college commits. So far, the Ice have players headed to:
