When two goals have been scored 66 seconds into the game, it's going to be a wild night.
It was for the Ice, who saw Youngstown's Dylan Margoneri score 14 seconds in and Mike Ambrosia tally the first of a natural hat trick at the 1:06 mark. The Phantoms scored four times in the first 10 minutes, five times in the first period and staved off an Ice comeback to win 8-6.
The eight goals were the most allowed by the Ice this year. The Ice trailed 5-1 after a period, which included two power play goals on the Phantoms' only two advantages of the night. It ballooned to 7-2 after the Phantoms sandwiched two tallies around a Brian Ferlin goal in the second period's first 2:43. The Ice rallied to within 7-5 by the end of the period, and the teams traded goals in the third, but Youngstown skated away with the victory.
Cody Bradley got the Ice on the board midway through the first to slow the early Youngstown barrage. After Ferlin made it 6-2 -- a goal that would be quickly answered by Stuart Higgins -- David Johnstone, Blake Coleman and Chris Martin all scored in the second to cut the deficit to 7-5. Coleman added his second goal of the night at 10:06 of the third, but the Ice could get no closer, despite a late power play.
Ferlin and Coleman had three-point nights -- Ferlin tallying a goal and two assists, Coleman two goals and an assist. With an assist on Ferlin's tally, Daniil Tarasov extended his points streak to seven games, although his goal-scoring streak was snapped at four games. Johnstone also extended a point streak to seven games with his 20th goal of the year -- making him the fifth Ice player to score 20 on the season. The Ice's league-best power play was 1-for-5, with Martin getting the tally in the second period.
